Prominence Energy Sharpens Helium and Natural Hydrogen Targets Ahead of Mid-2027 Drilling
Prominence Energy is moving its South Australian helium and natural hydrogen portfolio closer to drilling after completing gravity and magnetic inversion and interpretation work across its Eyre and Northern Hinge projects.
The geophysical work has strengthened the company’s understanding of the subsurface structures and geological architecture that could influence the generation, migration and accumulation of helium, natural hydrogen and associated gases.
Importantly, the results confirmed much of Prominence’s existing structural and stratigraphic interpretation, strengthened several previously identified leads and generated additional targets for further assessment.
Attention now turns to independent Prospective Resources Reviews as Prominence works to rank and de-risk its highest-priority opportunities ahead of a targeted multi-well drilling campaign in mid-2027.
At the Eyre Project, RISC Advisory is undertaking an independent Prospective Resources Review targeted for completion by the end of August. The review is expected to assess the potential scale of the exploration opportunities identified to date and provide an independent technical basis for future drilling and commercial decisions.
Eyre already brings together several layers of exploration evidence, including field-confirmed helium, natural hydrogen and methane anomalies, independent laboratory confirmation of elevated helium and natural hydrogen in soil gas, satellite-identified gas-related signatures and structural and geophysical interpretation. Prominence is also continuing collaborative technical work with CSIRO.
The company is advancing Northern Hinge in parallel following finalisation of a Native Title Land Use Agreement supporting the pathway toward grant of approximately 20,000 square kilometres of prospective acreage.
An independent Prospective Resources Review for Northern Hinge is targeted for September, providing another step toward defining and ranking the strongest prospects across the project.
Prominence has now established a relatively clear sequence of milestones leading toward drilling.
Following the Eyre resource review in August and Northern Hinge review in September, the company plans to update drilling engineering and cost estimates and commence a farm-out process in October. Detailed drilling design and planning are expected to follow through November and December ahead of the targeted mid-2027 drilling campaign.
Preliminary estimates indicate approximately A$5 million could fund three exploration wells, or two wells together with additional seismic, although those costs remain subject to the upcoming engineering work.
Prominence also expects its existing cash position to fund the planned technical program through 2026, allowing the company to complete the resource reviews, engineering and drilling preparation before committing capital to the exploration wells.
The latest work therefore represents another step in Prominence’s transition from regional exploration toward drill-ready helium and natural hydrogen prospects.
With independent resource assessments, engineering, farm-out activity and detailed well planning expected over the coming months, the remainder of 2026 should increasingly focus on determining which of Prominence’s South Australian targets will be tested first.
