Prominence Energy Secures Key Extension to Advance Gawler Hydrogen Project in South Australia

Prominence Energy (ASX: PRM) has announced a key milestone in its South Australian hydrogen strategy with the extension of its acquisition timeline for a 100% interest in the Gawler Hydrogen Project — a cornerstone exploration play in the country’s emerging natural hydrogen sector.

The new agreement, extended to 15 December 2025, follows the formal award of Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL) 803 to partner Gawler Group Holdings in August, providing regulatory clarity and unlocking one of Australia’s most prospective hydrogen basins.

Located across the Northern Hinge and Eyre Projects, the area covers known fault and basement structures favorable to geological hydrogen accumulations. The project is now fully permitted for exploration, with technical and administrative conditions precedent satisfied.

Chief Operating Officer Dr. Krista Davies stated:

“The award of PEL 803 represents a major step forward for natural hydrogen exploration in South Australia. We’re proud to advance this project in collaboration with Gawler Group Holdings and to help position South Australia at the forefront of Australia’s natural hydrogen industry.”

With exploration preparation underway, Prominence Energy is targeting a 2026 field program that will deploy conventional subsurface exploration methods to define natural hydrogen accumulations across the basin.
