Oman’s SOHAR Port Signs Landmark MoU with HYNAT SA to Develop Natural Hydrogen Value Chain
SOHAR Port and Freezone has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Switzerland-based HYNAT SA to develop a comprehensive natural hydrogen value chain in Oman. This partnership is a pivotal step in the Sultanate’s clean energy roadmap, positioning SOHAR Port as a key hub for low-carbon hydrogen solutions.
The MoU outlines joint efforts to identify and evaluate hydrogen production sites, develop logistical infrastructure such as storage and processing facilities, and assess both domestic and international demand for natural hydrogen. Export opportunities for global markets are also on the agenda, reflecting Oman’s ambition to become a leading supplier in the emerging hydrogen economy.
This collaboration builds on an earlier agreement signed in February 2025 between HYNAT SA and Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), which granted HYNAT the rights to conduct technical feasibility studies.
SOHAR Port CEO Emile Hoogsteden emphasized the deal’s alignment with Oman Vision 2040 and the nation’s clean energy strategy. HYNAT SA Chairman Stéphane Aver stated that the partnership is a tangible step toward accelerating the global shift to low-carbon energy sources.
