Mantle8 Secures €2.06M EU Grant to Advance Natural Hydrogen Exploration Technology
Mantle8 has received a €2.06 million grant from the European Union’s Just Transition Fund to support the development of its natural hydrogen exploration technology platform in Grenoble, France.
Founded in 2024 by geoscientist Emmanuel Masini, Mantle8 focuses on developing geoscience-based technologies designed to identify and analyse natural hydrogen systems in the subsurface. The company is currently advancing exploration permits associated with potential hydrogen reservoirs while building a technical platform intended to improve exploration targeting and subsurface analysis.
The EU funding will support several initiatives designed to expand Mantle8’s research and technology capabilities. These include expanding the HOREX pilot project in Comminges, establishing an APoGeH geochemistry laboratory in Grenoble, upgrading the GeoLogix subsurface imaging system, and continuing development of the Simul8 modelling platform.
Mantle8 also plans to recruit specialised researchers and conduct techno-economic studies with strategic partners as part of the program.
All activities funded through the grant will take place in Grenoble and the wider Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, reinforcing the area’s longstanding role as a centre for geoscience research and subsurface innovation.
While the funding will not directly finance exploration campaigns, it is intended to accelerate the industrial development and deployment of Mantle8’s exploration technologies, helping improve the efficiency and precision of natural hydrogen exploration programs.
