D3 Energy Secures South Australian Helium-Hydrogen Assets in Strategic Expansion

D3 Energy Limited (ASX: D3E | OTCQB: DNRGF) has expanded its global helium and hydrogen portfolio with the acquisition of exploration permits PEL 121 and PEL 122 in South Australia’s Arckaringa Basin, via a full acquisition of Unleash Energy Pty Ltd. Covering 5,865 km², the area lies between Oodnadatta and Coober Pedy, and offers favorable geological features reminiscent of high-grade discoveries in nearby basins.

Managing Director James Casey emphasized the move as a cost-efficient diversification play that complements D3’s flagship helium-methane project in South Africa’s Free State, which has already delivered world-class test results.

The new permits target analog-rich structures such as:

  • Hydrohelix: a shallow, 148 km² drill-ready faulted structure in PEL 121
  • Cootanoorina: a deeper thrust play beneath underexplored wells

Preliminary seismic interpretations show robust salt layering and fault controls — features known to facilitate the migration and trapping of helium and hydrogen. D3’s strategy mirrors outcomes from the Mt Kitty and Magee wells in the Amadeus Basin, which intersected helium and hydrogen in salt-sealed basement structures.

As D3 launches a Joint Venture process to fund drilling, the Arckaringa acquisition strengthens its position in both hemispheres and affirms its ambition to become a globally significant helium and natural hydrogen player.
