Thor Energy to Launch Full-Licence Hydrogen and Helium Survey at HY-Range, Prepares for 2025 Drilling

Thor Energy (ASX/AIM: THR) announced it will commence a comprehensive soil-air geochemical survey at its HY-Range project in South Australia in early May 2025. The program will collect approximately 100 samples across the entire licence to pinpoint natural hydrogen and helium hotspots and validate geological leads.

The survey incorporates a mobile onsite gas chromatograph for real-time, lab-grade hydrogen and helium measurements, a first in Australia. These results will inform final drill targeting for exploration wells planned later this year.

In corporate updates, Thor is issuing 1.67 million shares to VISITZ Limited in lieu of cash payments for social media services and is relinquishing its non-core Ragged Range project in Western Australia, sharpening its focus on energy metals and hydrogen.

HY-Range Exploration and Corporate Update
Hydrogen and Helium Geochemical Survey to Commence in May

Thor Energy plc (AIM/ASX: THR), the dual-listed natural hydrogen, helium and energy metals company, provides an update on its plan to commence a geochemical survey at its HY-Range project, and an update on its project portfolio:

  • HY-Range (Licence RSEL 802) licence-wide surface geochemistry survey to commence early May 2025.
  • Innovative approach using a mobile gas chromatograph for real-time, lab-grade hydrogen and helium analysis.
  • Survey will determine natural hydrogen and helium hotspots, investigate geological leads, and support drilling program preparation.
  • 2024-2025 work programme will culminate in exploration drilling for hydrogen and helium.
  • Issue of Equity: 1.67 million new shares issued in lieu of cash for professional services.
  • Portfolio update: Relinquishment of the Ragged Range project in Western Australia.

HY-Range Project (South Australia) – Geochemical Survey

A comprehensive soil air geochemical survey will commence early May 2025 across the HY-Range licence (RSEL 802) in South Australia. Approximately 100 samples will be collected across shallow augured or drilled locations to identify concentrations of near-surface gases indicative of deeper systems.

A key feature is the deployment of a mobile, onsite gas chromatograph, providing real-time, high-accuracy measurements with low detection limits (as low as a few parts per million). This improves data confidence, eliminates sample contamination risks, and allows dynamic adjustment of sampling during the survey.

The survey is designed to create both a regional geochemical baseline and high-resolution maps over specific geological leads. It follows the independent geological and prospective resource study announced on 30 March 2025.

Figure 1: Map showing the principal sampling transects (green lines) on licence RSEL 802 (dark blue polygon). The basemap is a composite of modelled depth to basement (pastel shades) overlaid by Neoproterozoic surface geology (light and dark grey) to mirror the Adelaidean structural trend of the Adelaid Geosyncline/rift. Principle faults, anticlines and synclines are indicated. The principal geochemical transects (green lines) and auxiliary sampling (not displayed) have been selected to both provide regional coverage and to intercept key geological features and prospectivity.

Managing Director Andrew Hume commented:

"This survey will help us high-grade leads, potentially identify gas migration pathways, and validate our exploration targets. Using a mobile gas chromatograph directly in the field, a first for natural hydrogen exploration in Australia, will provide lab-grade data accuracy and dynamic field flexibility."

The HY-Range project is strategically located at the geological intersection of the Gawler Craton and Adelaide Geosyncline, an area known for occurrences of hydrogen and helium at high concentrations. Its proximity to the City of Adelaide and regional infrastructure enhances its future commercial potential.

Issuance of Equity for Professional Services

Thor Energy has engaged VISITZ Limited for social media and engagement services. In lieu of cash payment, Thor will issue 1,666,666 new ordinary shares to VISITZ. Admission of the new shares on the London Stock Exchange (AIM) and ASX is expected at 8:00 a.m. on 1 May 2025.

Following the admission, Thor Energy's total number of ordinary shares will be 1,005,072,634.

Portfolio Update – Relinquishment of Ragged Range Project

Thor Energy has decided to relinquish its Ragged Range project in Western Australia after failing to secure a buyer. The relinquishment will save on exploration costs, rents, and rates.

The company looks forward to updating the market on the results of the geochemical survey and further corporate developments.
