Sound Energy and Getech Identify High-Potential Natural Hydrogen and Helium Zones in Morocco
Sound Energy plc, a transition energy company, has announced the successful completion of a regional screening study for natural hydrogen and helium exploration in Morocco, conducted in partnership with Getech Group plc, a global geoscience and resource mapping specialist.
The study, part of an ongoing Exploration Collaboration Agreement signed in October 2024, used Getech’s proprietary geological workflows to assess hydrogen and helium potential across Morocco. The findings identified multiple zones with strong geological indicators, validating the prospectivity of the region for naturally occurring hydrogen and helium.
Encouraged by these results, Sound Energy and Getech intend to form a Joint Venture to pursue exclusive exploration and exploitation rights in the newly defined areas. The next steps will involve geophysical surveying and drilling to further define viable deposits.
This marks a meaningful shift in Sound Energy’s strategy, expanding beyond natural gas and LNG into low-carbon resources critical to the energy transition. With Morocco’s favorable geology and emerging energy infrastructure, the region could become a strategic hydrogen and helium hub.

Hydrogen and Helium Exploration Update
Sound Energy, the transition energy company, is pleased to announce completion of the regional screening study for natural hydrogen and helium undertaken in collaboration with Getech Group Plc ("Getech"), a global leader in locating essential energy and mineral resources crucial for the energy transition.
On 28 October 2024 the Company announced entry into an Exploration Collaboration Agreement (the "Agreement") with Getech. Pursuant to the Agreement, the parties will collaborate to seek to explore for naturally occurring hydrogen and helium in Morocco. The initial phase of the Agreement comprised a regional screening study to identify areas of potential interest for more detailed assessment by the parties.
The Company is pleased to announce that the regional screening study has been completed and has identified areas of significant prospective potential for natural hydrogen and helium occurrence sufficient to warrant further study. The Company and Getech intend, under the terms of the Agreement, to form a Joint Venture and negotiate jointly exclusive rights for the exploration and exploitation of hydrogen and helium resources in Morocco, progressing towards necessary geophysical and drilling activities to unlock potential deposits.
