MAX Power Appoints Rob Norris CEO as Lawson Hydrogen Completions and US Listing Plans Advance
MAX Power Mining Corp. has appointed former Saskatchewan cabinet minister Rob Norris as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 13, 2026, as the company prepares to begin natural hydrogen completions testing at Lawson and Bracken, advances plans for a potential US stock exchange listing and expands the team responsible for commercializing its exploration technology.
The leadership restructuring comes at an important stage for MAX Power, which is moving from a drilling-led exploration campaign toward testing the production characteristics of its natural hydrogen discoveries in Saskatchewan.
Norris replaces Ran Narayanasamy, who moves into the newly created position of Managing Director, Innovation and International Strategy. The company has also appointed Tom Kishchuk as Chief Technology Officer and Dr. Brendan Bishop as Chief Geochemist, adding expertise in energy commercialization, technology deployment and subsurface geochemistry.
The immediate operational priority is a completions program scheduled to begin in the second half of October 2026.
At Lawson, the program will focus on determining whether the natural hydrogen system identified through drilling can support commercially viable production. At Bracken, approximately 325 kilometres southwest of Lawson, testing will follow up on encouraging results from the company's first well in the Grasslands Project area.
The program represents a transition from identifying hydrogen-bearing geological intervals to evaluating how those intervals perform under controlled production conditions.
Key measurements will include hydrogen concentration, flow rates, reservoir pressure and deliverability. These data will help establish whether the subsurface systems can sustain production and provide a technical basis for further commercial evaluation.
MAX Power describes Lawson, near Central Butte, as Canada's first subsurface natural hydrogen system confirmed through deep drilling, with analytical results validated by three independent laboratories.
The company interprets the broader Lawson Complex as covering approximately 28 square kilometres along the 475-kilometre Genesis Trend. It also controls approximately 2.5 million permitted acres of prospective natural hydrogen exploration ground across Saskatchewan.
While previous drilling has established the presence of hydrogen, the upcoming completions program is intended to address a different question: whether the reservoir can deliver sufficient volumes at suitable concentrations and pressures to support a viable production operation.
This distinction is central to MAX Power's proposed “months to molecules” strategy, which aims to accelerate the transition from exploration toward potential natural hydrogen production.
The strategy remains a management objective rather than an established production timetable. Its feasibility will depend heavily on the results of completions testing and subsequent technical and economic work.
Norris has served on MAX Power's board since June 2025. His political career included service as a Saskatchewan MLA from 2007 to 2016, with cabinet responsibilities covering energy, innovation, advanced education and other portfolios.
His experience includes involvement in energy policy, research institutions and international partnerships, including initiatives associated with the Boundary Dam Carbon Capture Project and the Canadian Light Source synchrotron in Saskatoon.
MAX Power is positioning that background as particularly relevant to its next phase, which will require coordination between subsurface testing, energy infrastructure, potential customers, regulators and capital markets.
Narayanasamy's new role will focus on innovation and international strategy, building on his leadership during the Lawson discovery and follow-up drilling campaign.
His responsibilities will include advancing international relationships and the company's proprietary MAXX LEMI exploration platform. MAX Power also anticipates visits to Lawson by international energy industry participants during the fourth quarter.
The restructuring separates operational commercialization leadership from the company's expanding technology and international development activities.
Kishchuk's appointment as Chief Technology Officer adds more than 30 years of technical and business experience, including previous leadership positions at Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Canada and Federated Co-operatives Limited.
His responsibilities will include supporting the transition from natural hydrogen discovery toward potential production and helping advance MAXX LEMI's commercial rollout.
MAXX LEMI is an AI-assisted exploration platform designed to integrate geological, geophysical and geochemical datasets to improve natural hydrogen target identification.
MAX Power has engaged Kyndryl to develop a commercialization strategy and go-to-market plan for the platform, potentially extending its use beyond the company's Saskatchewan exploration portfolio.
The company is therefore pursuing two related but distinct commercial opportunities: developing natural hydrogen resources and potentially licensing or otherwise monetizing the technology used to identify them.
Dr. Brendan Bishop's appointment as Chief Geochemist strengthens the scientific team responsible for interpreting subsurface processes and gas origins.

Tom Kishchuk Brings Energy Technology and Commercial Experience
Mr. Kishchuk brings more than 30 years of technical and business leadership, including service as President and CEO of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Canada Ltd. and Vice President, Operational Support, at Federated Co-operatives Limited. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and completed the Ivey Executive Program. He is Executive Director of the Global Institute for Energy, Minerals and Society.
As Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Kishchuk will play a key role in advancing MAX Power from discovery to potential near-term commercialization. His experience across energy technology, operations and commercialization strengthens MAX Power’s ability to execute on its “months to molecules” strategy. Mr. Kishchuk’s expertise will also be invaluable in ensuring a successful rollout of MAXX LEMI.
AI Leadership Meets Expanding Demand for Power
The appointment of a Chief Technology Officer reinforces management’s view that MAX Power is at the forefront of the resource sector’s adoption of artificial or super intelligence for all aspects of its operations. The Company’s MAXX LEMI Platform is designed to integrate geological, geophysical and geochemical information with AI modelling to sharpen exploration targeting and support the pursuit of Natural Hydrogen discoveries, not just in Saskatchewan but across the globe.
Kyndryl is currently developing a comprehensive commercial strategy and go-to-market plan for MAXX LEMI (refer to September 18, 2026 news release). Mr. Kishchuk will be intimately involved in the rollout plan for MAXX LEMI, which may also have applications beyond Natural Hydrogen.
This technology push comes as AI and data center expansion accelerate demand for reliable power. As referenced in MAX Power’s September 18, 2026 news release, Bell’s Saskatchewan plans include adding up to 900 MW of new capacity to its 300 MW project already under construction, creating a planned 1.2 GW AI infrastructure hub immediately adjacent to Genesis. Saskatchewan has also received more than 30 data center applications and requires new data centre proponents to supply their own power.
That expanding market gives added strategic significance to MAX Power’s search for a new primary energy source close to Saskatchewan’s industrial demand. Natural Hydrogen could ultimately contribute to local energy supply if testing establishes commercially viable production and development proceeds.
Dr. Brendan Bishop Adds Geochemistry Expertise
Dr. Bishop completed his PhD at the University of Regina with the thesis “Non-Traditional Sources of Critical Minerals From the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin.” He received the Governor General’s Gold Medal at the University’s spring 2024 convocation as the graduate student with the highest academic standing.
Dr. Bishop’s affiliations include the Geological Survey of Canada and the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His expertise in geochemistry, including his understanding of the isotopes of hydrogen and helium, makes him an invaluable addition to MAX Power’s technical team. He has 11 first-author articles published or in review and has been invited to speak at national and international conferences.
Why This Matters To Investors
MAX Power is entering what could become the most consequential phase of its development. Having established Canada's first confirmed subsurface Natural Hydrogen system, the Company is now approaching an important stage in evaluating the potential commercial viability of the Lawson Natural Hydrogen Discovery. With completions currently expected to begin in the second half of October, the focus is shifting toward evaluating flow, concentrations, reservoir performance and deliverability – among the factors necessary to access whether Lawson may support commercially viable production.
At the same time, MAX Power is building the corporate infrastructure to pursue an opportunity extending well beyond its initial discovery. An expanded leadership team brings together government and energy policy experience, industrial commercialization expertise and advanced geochemistry as the Company evaluates U.S. capital markets opportunities, pursues new discoveries and strategic partnerships across approximately 2.5 million permitted acres, and advances MAXX LEMI toward potential commercialization. The convergence of Natural Hydrogen exploration, AI-driven subsurface intelligence and rapidly expanding demand for reliable energy may create opportunities for future development and long-term value creation, subject to successful exploration, technical validation, commercial feasibility and market conditions.
The significance is in the timing. MAX Power is preparing to test the potential commercial viability of its Lawson Discovery while simultaneously building the leadership, technology and international relationships needed to pursue scale at a time when energy security and sovereignty are key global themes.
