MAX Power Advances Lawson 5 Toward Prairie Evaporite as 30-Kilometre Step-Out Tests Hydrogen System Scale
MAX Power Mining is advancing drilling at Lawson 5 in Saskatchewan, with intermediate casing completed at approximately 1,100 metres measured depth as the company approaches one of the well’s first major geological objectives: the Prairie Evaporite.
The well is significant because it sits approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Lawson 4, well beyond the tightly clustered first four Lawson wells near Central Butte. Rather than further defining the immediate discovery area, Lawson 5 is designed to test whether the geological architecture associated with the Lawson natural hydrogen system extends eastward toward what MAX Power calls the Salt Wall.
The Prairie Evaporite is central to that interpretation.
MAX Power considers the salt-bearing formation a potential regional trap and seal capable of helping retain hydrogen migrating through the subsurface. At deeper levels, the company expects to investigate a faulted fracture system associated with dissolution of the evaporite salt near the basement complex.
The geological concept is that fluids and gases have migrated up-dip from the southwest toward the Salt Wall, creating the possibility that the evaporite and associated structures could have influenced where hydrogen accumulated.
Lawson 5 is the first large step-out designed to test that interpretation at significantly greater distance from the original Lawson drilling.
The distinction is important: Lawson 1 through Lawson 4 were drilled within approximately two kilometres of one another and progressively added subsurface information around the discovery area. Lawson 5 moves roughly 30 kilometres northeast, turning the drilling program from local delineation toward a test of regional geological continuity.
Success would not establish that the entire intervening area contains a continuous hydrogen accumulation, but it could provide evidence that the geological ingredients identified around Lawson extend much farther across the Genesis Trend.
MAX Power says the Salt Wall Corridor itself continues approximately 475 kilometres north-south through the Genesis Trend toward the Saskatchewan-North Dakota border.
That gives Lawson 5 potential significance beyond a single well. The company is using it to test whether the relationship between basement structures, migration pathways and evaporite sealing observed in its exploration model can be applied on a much larger scale.
The step-out follows the completion of Lawson 4, where MAX Power previously reported its strongest hydrogen readings at Lawson and intersected a thick Basal Cambrian sandstone interval immediately above Precambrian basement and a deep crustal fault.
MAX Power Chief Geoscientist Steve Halabura said an initial review of drill core from key Lawson 4 intervals had increased the technical team's interest in the geological model ahead of Lawson 5.
The company has not provided new laboratory hydrogen concentrations from Lawson 4 in the September 29 release, however, and the significance of those core observations will depend on further analysis and testing.
The second major component of MAX Power's program is now developing alongside drilling.
Detailed planning is accelerating for an extensive completions program across Lawson, which will move the project from geological characterization toward questions of reservoir performance.
That distinction separates what Lawson 5 is intended to establish from what the completions program needs to determine.
Lawson 5 primarily tests geological scale. Completions will test commercial performance.
The latter is expected to address some of the most important outstanding questions for the Lawson system, including gas composition, hydrogen concentrations, flow characteristics, reservoir connectivity and potential deliverability.
MAX Power is also preparing completions work at Bracken, approximately 325 kilometres southwest of Lawson on a different trend, where the company has identified multiple prospective natural hydrogen and helium zones.

REGINA, Saskatchewan, Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MAX Power Mining Corp. (CSE: MAXX; OTC: MAXXF; FSE: 89N) (“MAX Power” or the “Company”) is pleased to report that Lawson 5 is proceeding as expected with intermediate casing completed yesterday at approximately 1,100 meters (measured depth). The first major horizon of interest within the next several hundred meters will be the Prairie Evaporite, interpreted to be a key trap and seal feature for the accumulation of Natural Hydrogen. At deeper levels, a faulted fracture system controls the basement complex dissolution process of the evaporite salt and will be of intense interest to the MAX Power technical team as it attempts to significantly expand the scale of the Lawson Discovery.
Lawson 5 is a 30-km step-out northeast of Lawson 4 and is testing the potential west-to-east extension of Canada’s first subsurface Natural Hydrogen system all the way from the first four wells near Central Butte to the “Salt Wall” at the edge of the Prairie Evaporite. The “Salt Wall Corridor” continues north-south for 475 km through the MAX Power-dominated Genesis Trend to the Saskatchewan-North Dakota border, further highlighting the potential scale implications of success at Lawson 5.
Mr. Steve Halabura, MAX Power Chief Geoscientist, commented, “Upon initial review of drill core from key intervals, Lawson 4 is even more exciting to us, so we very much look forward to results from Lawson 5. We know that fluids and gases have migrated up-dip from the southwest toward the Salt Wall. We had no hesitation in stepping out 30 kilometers – we continue to vigorously test a geological model we have had great success with from the start. Detailed planning for our completions round continues and we look forward to sharing more details on that very soon.”

Figure 1 – The Genesis Trend
Why This Matters to Investors
Lawson 5 represents a pivotal test of scale for MAX Power. The first four Lawson wells have progressively defined Canada’s first confirmed subsurface Natural Hydrogen system. Now, approximately 30 km northeast, Lawson 5 is beginning to test whether the geological architecture identified at Lawson extends toward the Salt Wall and into a much larger regional setting. The Salt Wall Corridor continues for approximately 475 km through the Genesis Trend toward North Dakota, while Bracken, approximately 325 km southwest on a different trend, contains multiple prospective Natural Hydrogen and helium zones. Together, these targets are expanding the exploration thesis well beyond the boundaries of a single discovery area.
The bigger opportunity is basin scale. Lawson 5 is testing potential geological scale while upcoming completions at Lawson and Bracken are designed to address the critical commercial questions of composition, flow and deliverability. At the same time, every well expands the proprietary geological, geophysical and reservoir dataset feeding MAXX LEMI. MAX Power is therefore advancing two increasingly connected assets: the Natural Hydrogen opportunity beneath Saskatchewan and the intelligence being built to understand and potentially identify these systems at greater scale.
