MAX Power Advances Commercial Validation Program with Lawson 3 Drilling Underway
MAX Power Mining has advanced to the next stage of its commercial validation program at the Lawson Natural Hydrogen discovery in Saskatchewan, beginning drilling at a third well while continuing geological modelling of the broader hydrogen system.
Lawson 3 was spudded on August 5 approximately 2.2 kilometres east of Lawson 2 and 1.2 kilometres south of the original Lawson 1 discovery well. The new location is intended to help triangulate the interpreted hydrogen accumulation within a roughly 14-square-kilometre structural closure, providing additional data for reservoir modelling by independent energy consultant GLJ Ltd.
As drilling progresses at Lawson 3, GLJ is integrating geological and drilling data from the first two wells to refine its understanding of the system and determine the optimal location for Lawson 4. Following that well, MAX Power plans to move into completion testing and potentially drill a production well.
The company says Lawson 2 has continued to strengthen its geological model for the Lawson Complex. Drilling reached a total depth of 2,440 metres, extending 162 metres deeper than the original Lawson discovery well.
Among the key results reported from Lawson 2 are approximately 860 metres of continuous natural hydrogen readings from the gas detection system, the strongest hydrogen readings recorded at Lawson to date, evidence of an extensive basement fracture network, and 120 metres of recovered core from the Deadwood Formation and Precambrian basement.
The basement section alone yielded 89.2 metres of core, which MAX Power says is the greatest amount recovered from basement rocks in a single Saskatchewan well. The recovered core has now been delivered to AGAT Laboratories in Calgary for detailed geological analysis.
According to the company's geological team, Lawson 2 has further confirmed the presence of favourable source rocks, migration pathways, reservoirs, seals and structural traps associated with the interpreted natural hydrogen system.
The current drilling campaign represents the commercial validation phase of the Lawson discovery, with the objective of evaluating the size, continuity and reservoir characteristics required before any future production decisions.
Beyond the immediate Lawson Complex, MAX Power continues to highlight the broader exploration potential of its Saskatchewan land position. The company controls approximately two million acres across the Genesis Trend, including the adjoining Aurora Project, where it believes similar geological conditions could host additional natural hydrogen systems.
