H2Au Spuds Wildcat Natural Hydrogen Well in Kansas

H2Au has begun drilling in Kansas, marking a significant step in the company’s natural hydrogen exploration program and moving a previously untested prospect into the drill-testing stage. 

The well is being drilled as a wildcat, meaning it is testing a prospect that has not previously been evaluated by drilling. For H2Au, the program represents an opportunity to move beyond surface interpretation and exploration models and begin collecting direct subsurface data. 

The drilling campaign is being undertaken through H2Au’s joint venture with 45-8 Energy, following an extensive period of technical preparation and operational planning. 

Kansas has become part of a growing wave of natural hydrogen exploration activity in the United States, as explorers increasingly look to drilling to test geological models and determine whether prospective subsurface systems contain meaningful hydrogen accumulations. 

The importance of the H2Au program therefore extends beyond the individual prospect. Wildcat drilling provides the physical geological and subsurface information needed to test assumptions, refine exploration methodologies and improve understanding of how natural hydrogen systems behave underground. 

With the well now spudded, attention turns to what the drill bit reveals as H2Au and 45-8 Energy gather the first direct subsurface data from the prospect.
